Hakone

Jennie, a friend from grad school, was in town this week for a conference, and stuck around for a while to have some fun in Japan. So today Jennie, Molly, Danner, and I went down to Hakone, a mountain town famous for its onsens (hot springs), pretty scenery, and great views of Mt Fuji. Seeing as we were only doing a daytrip, we skipped the springs, and went for a hot bowl of noodles and some fresh mountain air. It was beautiful, although we traversed more types of transportation today than I think I’ve previously managed in a 24-hour period. Express train, to mountain tram, to cable car, to gondola, (then we skipped the boat) and took a bus back…

This this evening Molly, Jennie, Jen, and I went out for shabu shabu which was delicious. We got two kinds of broths, and a bunch of meat and veg, which you drop into the broth to cook. So now tired, fat, windblown, and happy, I’m ready for bed.
