Goofy pics

It’s a rainy, grey Saturday here, so we’re huddled up with our tea. I made black beans & eggs for breakfast– very warm comfort food and have decided now’s the time to pull together some of the goofy pics I’ve been collecting.

Helpful English for picky eaters

A particularly ripe area for fun pics are the vending machines. For lo they are ubiquitous and stocked with so much more than Coke and Coke Zero.

Not quite The Boss that comes to mind, but ok.

For the craving you didn't know you had-- Bulgarian peach water

Cocoa or corn pottage... decisions, decisions

Gets me everytime.. I expect a small tea sandwhich at the bottom

Signage is another tried and true source of humor. Tokyo’s English signs are generally quite readable (especially compared to the past), so you’ll have to stick to engrish.com if that’s what you’re looking for. There are still plenty of advertisements where something gets either lost or disguised in translation. This is one I saw out of the corner of my eye in a train station:

Not quite champaigne.... look closer

Cuz single-use is so last year

In Japanese the toilet sign says anyone can use it (i.e. handicapped accessible), but this way it’s got so much more potential!

"I was told there would be tuna"

Wanna try and guess what this adorable little kitten is telling you? “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!” Not quite. This is a warning not to apply make-up on the metro, because it will be “bothersome” to others. (… well, naturally)

And finally, a small collection of the joys that await you if you visit. (Aside from tentacled chicken of course)

Brie corn rice bowl... coming to fusion restaurant near you!

Contain your excitement.

"Oil Fondu"-- entirely accurate yet unappetizing translation

Of course they love Peeps... don't be silly.

    omg, these are awesome!
    – what sweet words of temptation is the corn potage attempting in that sign? “I make the most amazing polenta you’ve ever tried…”
    – what in heaven’s name is the DNA collagen product supposed to be?
    – I totally want to hear reviews of the brie rice corn bowl 🙂
    – I’m so in for the button museum, that sounds so randomly fabulous
    – somehow their peeps look more elegant and genteel than ours. Not surprising, really 😉
